It was surreal to see Ariel Rittenhouse last weekend at the National Diving Championships ugg boots sale at the Maas Diving Center at Stanford.
Last time I’d seen her, she was a 12-year-old girl who could do some neat tricks off the springboard during a solo practice at Santa Clara Swim Center. She was still so young then — a bit of baby fat and a shy demeanor. And when she told me she wanted to make the Olympic team, my first instinct was to pat her on the head and say, ‘Yes, or you Ugg Classic Cardy 5819 Chocolate could grow up and be president’ which, of course, she still could. But I didn’t, mostly because it would have been awkward and partly because her mother, Sharon Finneran Rittenhouse had won an Olympic silver medal in swimming.
Fast forward to Friday, when I met Rittenhouse again, fresh off winning a silver Ugg Women’s Bailey Button 5803 Grey medal in 3-meter synchronized diving at the Pan American Games in Brazil. Her face was the same, but she now was a sculpted and composed beauty. She answered questions.
